故事開始於秋季，在遭受卡特果娜颶風災難的三個月後，新奧爾良正陷入前所未有的危機：停電，停水，缺少食物，數百人死亡，幾十萬居民無家可歸，政治，經濟全面癱瘓，經典文化面臨消失的危險。當地居民肩負著重建家園，恢復生產生活，賺錢及傳承當地文化的革命。他們當中有音樂家，有廚師，有專門在嘉年華會上進行表演的印第安人，有學者，還有許許多多平淡無奇的小市民。
